Ken, and others... the problem is there won't be a run unless you guys organize them. As this thread indicates, there is plenty of people who are interested. Who is going to step up and set a route, meeting place, and time?
How about this... the first person to successfully organize 3 Oregon offroad trips gets a NW Overland Society Badge. Trips must be on primitive, unmaintained, or 4x4 trails and preferably be overnighters. |

Larry,
Sounds like you want to do exactly what I want to do. How ever just discovered an aggresive water leak from the left bank. I also still cannot figure out where the lockout solenoid for the TC selector is. It is stuck in H. So I wont be able to do much exploring until I get these issues fixed. |

I would be up for some trail runs, as long as they are on the weekends as I have class during the week. I can sometimes take off Friday though. |

Alex,
Scouting trips count too. Most trips we take are the first time any of us have run them... that's why we are going, and is why we go in groups. It's also why most trips on NWOS tend to get limited to somewhere between 3 and 7 vehicles. It keeps the group nimble.

| Wish I'd know where to start. Guess I've got some maps but it still would be long shot. I wish I had at least few pointers. Also with 6,2 year and 6 months old at new home (just moved in) my scouting allotment is rather limited. So far I've only been to Tillamook forest and few gravel roads by Mt Hood. |

look for posts of washougal area. I think Ben has put up some coordinates for that area which has some cool places to get dirty, and some really good photo oppertunities. In the next few weeks it's going to get pretty hard to do any trail rides because most of the good trails are high in the hills and the dont get plowed or maintained. The snow can pretty deep in some areas. Late spring is a great time to do some exploring in Mt. Hood area. If your in for something aliitle farther away, you could look into the Central Oregon Desert. A few of the NWOS members are leaving bery soon to do some very cold camping. Brrrrr. We do have alot of beach that your Monty can explore in the area anytime of the year. Sand lake is somewhat cool if you like lots of sand and LOTS of crazy quad riders. Iwould b happy to show you the area along the coast sometime. Not many place between Coos Bay and Long Beach WA i have not explored. |

Alex,
I'm not from Oregon, but I'm sure the guys here will help you find a few places
There are:
Ryan's suggestions above Tillamook NF that you already know about nwjeepn.com lists several trails Our library here has a few GPX tracks and maps for places in Oregon Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route - aka Discovery Trail Hells Canyon - Dug Bar (Remote, but not 4x4) and Lord Flat Steens Mountains and Alvord Desert - See our photo section
I don't want to isolate you here though and make you feel pressured. I think there are a whole bunch of you from Oregon who want to explore but are a little unsure of where to go. Getting some good advice from the guys here, online from a reputable site, or from our library should give you a good start.

| Thanks for pointers. There is definitely a lot more to discover here. I need to get some better mapping. Seems like weather/climate might restrict some of exploration for now. |

| As stated above the Noonday trail is a good one until the snow sets in, South Jetty is good for a sand run, of course my favorite place is the Fort Rock and Christmas Valley area, Steens and Alvord are awesome, Down South near Cave Junction is the McGrew trail which is rated at about a 3 out of 5. The Bend area has several trail that I haven't been on as yet. Most of the good stuff is on the Eastside. We went up Table Rock in Christmas Valley last Sunday, it is one of those roads/trails where you wouldn't worry about if it was on level ground but on the side of a cliff you get the pucker factor going a little. It's just a short run but worth it for the view. There are a few trails and a rock crawling area (Groundhog) in the OHV area East of Newberry crater. Most of the trails are for quads and motorcycles but there are a few for 4x4 rigs. It would take a 2 day trip over there to beable to do anything really cool. We are learning the area pretty good. Alot of it is on old roads and in places it's really nice to have 4 lo. We are always up for running the high deserts of Oregon. rupe |
