Hey Guys,  Rather than intersperse the stuff you are bringing in the long thread, let's work out packing lists here.  From spares, to food, to shared camping gear like lanterns or stoves,  we can work it out in this forum.  I am finalizing my list and post it as well.  If there are shared parts, no use in bringing multiples.  Also let us know if you have a working winch, radio, and GPS.

I know Davis, Craig, and myself have SPOT PLB's.  Let us know if you want family included on a "Were OK" notification by email periodically.  It will send our location and a short message t the email you provide.  We should also add some folks who are not going to the we need help button so they can coordinate someone to help.

Tony's list from the other thread:

Among many, many other tools, I'll have a telescoping 1/2" breaker, but -- stock lug wrench + hilift handle = mucho leverage.

Did we try to get a spares list going?  Here's what I have now and plan to bring, there may be more by departure day (you can assume all my parts fit a '92 RRC, and I'll have liquor and a handgun, so plan your thefts accordingly):

Water pump

ICV

PCV Tee

Coil (I have a pile, I can bring more than one)

Stock alternator

Spark plugs

Full set of belts and a couple extra alternator belts

Upper radiator hose

A couple U-joints

fuel pump (pump only, I saved it out of my wasted pump housing when I swapped)

Sundry hoses, clamps, electrical wire, connectors, bulbs, relays, solder, duct tape, Hylomar, grey RTV, oil, trans fluid, antifreeze, grease...

Stuff I could bring --

10 spline rear axles (I have 24 spline now, but I can bring the 10's if anyone else needs them)

A noisy but functional 10 spline 3rd member

RRC SWB LT230 drive shafts

An LT 230...

I don't have much room for extras, but I will bring a high lift, a working winch. Spare diff, fuel pump, and I am first aid CPR certified.

Still thinking.

I figure it will keep folks cognizant of not consuming too much. If someone passes out around the camp fire, we can shock'em! Won't that be funny!

I've got me a Chrysler, it seats about 20.....

I'll bring a bunch of stuff I should have brought on 4W695:

  • Drag Link
  • Winch 125' of line and 50' extension
  • 4' hi-lift
  • first aid kit
  • jumper cables
  • diesel fuel filter
  • super siphon
  • wash buckets
  • 2.5 gallons of gear oil in jerry can
  • full tool kit
  • full recovery kit (tree strap, multiple D-rings, snatch strap, tow strap, hi-lift winching kit, 2 pulleys (3 if you count the winch ;) )
  • Brushranger Airjack
  • portable toilet (intend to use it most of the time with just a whole and no bag)
  • 1.5'x5' Sand ladders  qty 6 (will they be needed?)
  • grill to cook over fire
  • box organic wine
  • tarp and line
  • Sven Saw
  • duct tape

I think that's about it for now.  I'll have all my own camping gear(cooking, etc..) with some extra plates and such.

Hey Peter, I think 4 sand ladders would be plenty if you need to cut down some. Also, should we plan on carrying 4-5 quarts of diesel motor oil each, most likely both of our rigs won't need a full change.

As far as the 2.5 gallons of gear oil, would it be easier for everyone to bring 1 quart of communal gear oil since all of our rigs use the same?

the 2.5 is already in the jerry can, so that's the way it comes. I've had bad experiences with loose bottles. But others are welcome to bring them.
I need 6.5 quarts for a full change and will just bring 2 gallon jugs. Or maybe another 2.5 gallon jerry can.

Who is the other D2 on the trip? Perhaps we could coordinate spares.

Here's my list so far:

Winch with 90’ line

4 foot Hi lift with Jackmate

First aid kit

Jumper cables

Four NATO cans with spout plus super siphon

Limited tool kit

Full recovery kit with tree strap, snatch strap, 3 pulleys, 2 D-rings

Portable crapper

12 volt air compressor

2 military insulated water carriers

Shovel

Does anybody else want to borrow a NATO can? I don't think I'll need one...maybe two of them. Also have an extra military insulated water carrier. You just need to find a water carrier that fits it.

I'm the other D2 Mike. I'll go through my spares next weekend. I'll probably have a set of hoses, a used serpentine belt, old set of plugs/wires, enough oil to fill the motor or will use it in the diffs if I need to get home, maybe some ATF. The items I should have are a fuel pump and coil but don't.

I have one spare 265/75/16 wheel and no patch kit.

FYI, Norm is bringing 3 jerry cans of fuel for his Disco1. Depending on the range of your vehicle, I am thinking let's bring 3 at minimum. Dan, with the D90 you may want 4. Do you need to borrow some JC's? I just came to the realization that Diesel may be harder to find so I may bring 3 myself. I originally was thinking 1-2. I'll get some real world water calcs tonight when Norm and I meet to finalize the route.

Oh, and when I say finalize the route, I don;t mean that it will be planned to the brass tacks. We will all need to live with some flexibility as many routes are snowbound still and we will be looser as the week goes on. We will make sure we can get out to Highway travel by Sat.  We do have a general plan but options may be eliminated or added based on our travel speed.  If we do have 10 trucks, it could take a bit longer.

Do you have tire chains?  If so, it may not hurt to bring them.  I cannot believe that I am saying that for a trip in Mid June!

Al Gore, what have you brought upon us!

So I am using Norm as the barometer as he has travelled the are more than anyone I know of, we are ironing out final details tonight.   And he knows the capabilities and limitations of a semi stock Disco in the area, which is a good middle ground for all our rigs.  I owe a lot to him for helping me out on this trip, great guy!  I am thinking of putting together some kind of gift for him for his help, maybe a photo book of the trip with thanks from all who go in captions.  Maybe a gas card as well with whatever folks want to chip in.  This is a trip I have wanted to do for a very long time and he is doing his best to make it a great one for all of us.  I am thinking a token gift of appreciation is in order.  Kevan and Peter (and whomever else), would you be willing to share a couple pictures for a photo book for him?  I ge tthe feeling he is winding down his guiding business there due to age and health, this sounds like a trip where he can just hang out rather than feed, lodge, and entertain a bunch of folks, and just enjoy the area he loves.

Todd, I'll be topping off with biodiesel in Bend (two locations there for it). I'll then have 35 gallons onboard and another 10 in jerry cans. Our last trip in Oregon I got 18MPG for the offroad portion. Do you think we'll be doing more than 800 miles? Not only do I prefer organic food, I also prefer only biodiesel when possible. I'm a super snoot.

Ohhh, Good idea! 800 miles should cover it to Diamond. I get 23-25MPG and only have 35 gallons total. It will be interesting to see what I get off-road. How much worse is yours off-road than on the highway?

No different.   Driving to Oregon on highway; 18.7MPG.  Offroad: 18.4MPG  Driving Home:18.6MPG
I'd also love to throw one of these in, then no need for jerry cans.  But an expensive way to go about it
