Can someone suggest a place to buy an ARB or Engel? I see quite a bit of price variance and could get the Engel 42 delivered for $649. I called down to Central 4x4 and they want $780 + tax for the ARB 42, so almost $850. I won't pay that.... suggestions? Who's got the skinny on the deals?

Columbia Rovers or Roemer Offroad both have pretty good prices. Where'd you find the Engel for $649?

I was off slightly. The Engel is $664 delivered from Compact Appliance. I'd like an ARB better because of the temp readout and coolness factor, but I'm not sure how much I'm willing to pay for that little bit of convenience. Which fridge did you end up going with, Craig?

Mine was a birthday present and I was told to "Get what you want" so I bought an ARB from Columbia Rovers and picked it up myself in Renton (saves shipping). Give Scott/Brent a call to see what they are selling them for.

ARB requires all of their retailers to list full retail prices online, so anytime you are shopping for ARB products it pays to call around to see what you can really get them for.

HA! Mine's a birthday present too! We are lucky guys. You saved sales tax too, didn't you? I'd love the ARB, but it's hard to go that way if the Engel, which I assume is the same thing, is much cheaper. I'll just cover it with stickers anyway....

Yes, we are lucky guys!

Yep, saved sales tax and shipping. The price difference isn't that much once you take those two off. Especially if you consider that you are going to have this thing for the next 20 years.

I got the ARB 42 from 4wheelsupply.com and love it but probably paid too much.

It was $699.97 + $52.95 S&H from Utah.

If you want to look at the Engel 43 or get it local, Cabelas has it at their Lacey, WA store. They want $699.99 + local tax.

I was amazed at what little current it draws (2.7 amps, max) for doing such a good job.

I have mine set up to run off of a second Optima battery that will run it all night long when the engine is off, and only needs a slight trickle charge in the morning to get back to full charge.

That fridge and the Thetford Porta Potti 465 are two of the best things so far.

Bought mine (ARB) from Scott at Columbia Rovers. I think that's where you'll find the best deal and besides it's good to support the local folks.

Just a quick comment about the bags. From what I can tell, the ARB bag is a little better than the Engel bag. Specifically, the ARB bag doesn't require anything to be unzipped before the fridge can be opened and appears to have a little heavier weight fabric.

As a follow up to Davis' post, I finally got my stuff together for a trial.  I bought the baskets as well and as Davis noted, the handles make the lid not sit down.  This was annoying to me as most of the time in camp I don't latch it for ease of use and I don't want to have to.

I was able to snip those handles off and the baskets sit perfectly.  And now the lid closes as well.  I also bought the snazzy DualZone light and it seems to do the job.  Looking forward to using the setup this week!

Excellent!  I was going to try snipping them off myself.  Glad it works.

Is the light battery powered?  It looks handy.

Furthermore, does the light shut off when you close the door?

As for the bag and zipper, I find it handy and use it to keep the lid closed more than the latch. It's easier to undo than the latch most of the time since the bag covers the latch.

sometimes the light turns itself off, which is odd. It's nice having it on for the test as I can see if the lid closes all the way.
The light is battery powered. Some small batteries, but at least they'll be kept cold and last longer! You canprobably find a stick on one at walmart. I got this one from Sierra Expeditions and it says TwoZone on it, even though I'm only using OneZone.

btw, you don't actually need to cut the handles off the basket to get the lid to close tight without latching - bending them down achieves the same result.

Cutting is more fun.

I played with the light and it IS supposed to shut off if you let the lid drop a little. pretty cool. No huge drop, maybe just 1/2". If you tap on the light, it'll shut off which leads me to believe and test that it always turns off when the lid has a 'thump' to it.

I like my baskets, come in handy.  I don't mind the lid needing a little push to close, but the bag coveing the latch sucks.  I may swap out for the ARB bag, anyone do this with an Engel fridge?

I got my ARB fridge through trdparts4u.com a Toyota dealereship in Texas.
I paid around $650 for it I think.

I work just down the road from ARB, and I picked it up direct from them.

These fridges are great.
