On my Nikon I download a picture, and make sure it is set to download as the "Original File Name". This makes the file name something like: DSC_3xxx when it is saved onto my computer.

My counter turns over at 10k, so that makes the last photo I took as 23,000 something. You might find something in the menus also.

Peter,
As far as I know, if the file naming is set to continuous, then what Ben said is true. If not then only Canon can tell how many shutter actuations are on the camera. (Second hand and I cant verify the source)
I am just interested in a ballpark figure.

Britt

You're right about finding it.  I've tried Exif-O-Matic and others and it can't pull it.  annoying.
My guess would be....ummmm.....40,000 or so?  I'm estimating based on the total number of pictures taken each year, but that's rough.
Here's the second picture I ever took with it and the last picture taken with it.  The first is file number 306-0601 and the last is 512-1210.  Sometimes I reset it but most of the time I left it on continuus.  It arrived in my cluttered old office on March 27th, 2003.  It was replaced with the 5D in January of 2006 and only used as a second camera for weddings that year until now, with that last picture being taken on July 8th, 2006

And a correction, it's the BG-ED3 grip, not the BG-E4

Ok, I thought the BG-E4 would be for your D5.

yeah, I just put it in the wrong box.
ok, let me know when you know.
It's also listed on eBay and craigslist, not to give you any undue pressure, but thought you should know.
