Dang... this looks like a sweet trip.

From realcruiser.com:

A small group of Alaskan and Canadian cruiserheads go on a "scouting expedition" deep into the Alaskan wilderness. They explored new areas well beyond any previously traveled trails. Ten days and 250+ miles of extreme off-road adventure.Check out the pictures

The field repair of the leaf springs 125 miles into the trail was pretty cool... oh, and the scenery. :)

That's more like real overlanding. Good stuff! Reminds of good point that if you are unable to repair your truck out there you may have to abandon it for good. Recovery may be impossible or prohibitively expensive.

Agreed Alex. Definitely what I think of when I think of "Overlanding". Long enough to require planning fuel/supplies/tools, hard enough of a trail to require a built up rig, and so remote you have to be self-sufficient. Love it.

the point that Alex makes is exactly why i am going to the extremes i am with my Jeep. Strip it down to the essentials carry more spares than you think youll need in a life time and put it on axles that would bear 5 times the weight you are...

Dillon -

Too bad you couldn't make it t the BC Roverlanders Canol Road video / presentation. Same thing. 1000s of miles from anything and challenging off-road conditions to boot. If you aren't prepared to handle things on your own it's going to be tough to get back to civilization.

I absolutely love this type of wheeling. I'd rather go on one trip a year that is a true Overland Expedition than spend every weekend wheeling an ORV park. Just wish I had the money and vacation time to pursue it more frequently... still making plans though. :)

Craig

I'm going with Mark on this year's trip in Alaska.  Leaving on June 18th to take the ferry up, we'll spend ten days in the back country crossing a lot of deep water, and then drive back down to Oregon.  This year's Trek starts outside of Tok, Alaska.
